Farmers long march to Capital for land

Chanting slogans demanding a better deal from the government, around 25,000 peasants and landless farmers from across the country descended on the capital today after a 350 km-long march from Gwalior.

The protesters, mostly tribals, are demanding their right to land, water and forest in the areas where they live. They have started gathering at the Ram Lila Maidan.

The march began on 2 October from Gwalior. Twenty-five different tribal groups from Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Orissa, Jharkhand and Bihar have joined the march.
