A Meeting has been organized by Farmtalking 'About Bluetongue'. The disease is transmitted to ruminant livestock by infected insects (midges) and is now widespread in Europe and reached the UK last year.
The aim is to offer farmers and vets in the eastern Scottish Borders a chance to learn more about the disease and it's control from the European experience.
The meeting will be Chaired by Frank Langrish; the Chairman of the British Wool Marketing Board and a farmer from the South East of England who has had BT diagnosed in his flock.
The speakers will be Dr. Ruth Watkins, the virologist and farmer who drew up the proposed vaccination policy that has been submitted to DEFRA and the EU. Dr. Dan Dercksen, a veterinarian from Holland who has experienced the disease over the last two years there and George Milne, Secretary and Development officer for The National Sheep Association for Scotland.
Entry to the meeting is free although we are voluntary requesting donations and sponsorship to cover our costs.
Please call Farmtalking as soon as possible to book a place as space is limited!
