Fish farmers urge reduction of import duties on feeds
Fish farmers in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara have urged the Federal Government to reduce import duties on fish feeds.
Mr Yusuf Kosemani, the chief executive of Kosemani Fish Farm, made the call in Ajase Ipo, near Ilorin, in an interview with our correspondent.
Kosemani, who spoke on behalf of fish farmers in the area, said reduction of import duties on fish feeds would lead to increase in fish production.
He complained that private fish farmers were buying imported fish feeds at exorbitant prices.
"A bag of 15 kilogramme of coppens (imported fish feed) is sold for N4,250.
"An average fish farmer can use five of such bags to feed fingerlings and fishes in one day," he added.
