Frome Show definitely goes ahead as livestock classes are cancelled
There will be no livestock classes at this year's Frome Show but, it's being stressed, the show is going ahead as planned.
The decision to cancel the cattle, sheep and goat classes was taken because of concerns that the movement ban imposed following the foot and mouth outbreak in Surrey would not be lifted in time.
Said show secretary Brenda Scott: "Even if the ban had been lifted there just wasn't time to make all the necessary arrangements, especially as it's likely we would have had to impose very strict bio-security measures.
"However, the rest of the show is unaffected and will still go ahead with plenty of other animals and birds for visitors to see and enjoy. The restrictions don't apply to horses so all of the equestrian competitions will take place, the poultry classes will still be held and children will still be able to enjoy the Pets Corner with its rabbits, guinea pigs and other small animals.
"That's all over and above a fantastic programme of entertainment on the Village Green, a completely sold out Fine Food Hall, more trade stands than ever before a brand new local food hall and a packed Cheese Pavilion which has been moved to a new, more prominent location "
She added: "So make sure you've got the date – Saturday September 8th – and the place - the West Woodlands Showground – in your diary. You won't want to miss it!"
