THE WORLDS LARGEST HATCHERY.
Avigen-Hilbersdorf, from Dresden Germany, is to build the worlds largest chicken hatchery, that will hatch 1 million eggs per week into day old chicks for sale.
According to the companies European operations, president Val Mendeleev, the company need the new facility to service orders in eastern Europe.
The new facility regulations are now far more stringent in regard to animal welfare, especially in the pigs and poultry farming sectors.
The banning of farrowing crates for sows and battery cages for hens, have meant re-designing the breeding farms.
The new plant has cost in the region of 20 million euros and be operational by the end of January.
The company completed a hatchery in Denmark in February of last year that has around 100,000 laying hens.
