Gordon Brown harangued for farming fiasco

An angry farmer confronted Gordon Brown following his keynote speech to business leaders, accusing him of presiding over a "fiasco" in the farming and road haulage industries.

Bernard Howard, 70, harangued Mr Brown for two minutes at the Confederation of British Industry conference in London.

He said: "What a fiasco your Government is today. You have neglected the farming industry and what have you got? There is a big explosion of increased prices in supermarkets and that's your folly for not supporting British farmers."

He said that fuel duty rises were "a disaster" and warned that road hauliers were planning fuel protests similar to those in 2000.
