Herefordshire 'out in force' for first Royal Three Counties show
The county of Herefordshire is throwing its weight behind the first ever Royal Three Counties Show (14th, 15th & 16th June), with VIPs, exhibitors, competitors, and county businesses preparing to cross the border into Worcestershire for the three day spectacular at the Three Counties Showground this weekend!
Leading the Herefordshire contingent is The Countess of Darnley JP HML, who is the Three Counties Agricultural Society’s President this year.
Lady Darnley has lived and farmed in Netherwood, near Bromyard, with her husband, The Earl of Darnley, since 1984, and now farms in partnership with their daughter-in-law and a neighbouring farmer. She is a member of the Hereford Diocesan Synod, and serves on both the Bishop’s Council, and the Hereford Cathedral Council.
Celebrating 30, 41 and 50 years – respectively - of service to horticulture and agriculture this year, are Herefordshire employees, Chris Bennewith-Mair, (Wyevale Nurseries, Kings Acre), Michael Preece (Messrs Phillip Wrixon, Devereux Wootton, Norton Canon) and Brian Burford (Cobrey Farms, Coughton, Ross on Wye).
The three will each be receiving a Long Service Award for their 30 years or more continuous service with the same employer or on the same holding.
Hereford beef is now acclaimed by many leading purveyors of Quality Beef from all over the world for its succulence and flavour, and the Hereford Cattle Society, which has its own Marquee at the Show, has received very good entries for 2013’s competitions.
Promoting local food with taste is key to the Royal Three Counties Show, and Herefordshire food and drink producers and chefs, are showcasing their specialities this weekend.
Live on stage in the Regional Cookery Theatre is Matt Slocombe who runs the Crown Inn at Woolhope in Herefordshire, and works closely with local farms and producers in the county to serve the very best food and drink that Herefordshire has to offer.
Matt, who used to run The Scrumpy House in Much Marcle will be joining other local chefs from in and around the three counties, to offer visitors cookery demonstrations using fresh, home-grown and locally sourced ingredients.
Complementing the theatre is the Artisan Food and Drink Market, and Herefordshire producers Kelsmor Dairy of Garway, Castle Farm Pork of Madley and Siddington Farm of Ledbury will all have stands.
The Herefordshire Guild of Crafts group is at the Show too, and among those displaying their handiwork are jeweller, Megan Arnold (Ledbury), Sarah Billingham of Redland Pottery (Leominster), furniture maker, Jonathan Cooper (Bishop’s Frome) and Jo McCulloch who specialises in textiles (Bromyard).
