INDIA.
PROBLEMS WITH FISH EXPORTS.
In 2008 India exported 67,373 tons of seafood and the main market was to Japan.
However Vietnam have signed a free trade agreement with Japan, meaning that the market will now be more competitive from Vietnam as the tax on imports to Japan is so high.
Japan accounted for 16% of the total exports from India last year and this trade mow looks in serious danger, according to government officials.
Even before the FTA was signed, India was facing very tough competition and sales were already in decline.
