International cheese success for South Caernarfon Creameries

South Caernarfon Creameries recently traded Chwilog for Cheshire having attended this year’s Nantwich International Cheese Festival. The farmer-owned co-operative was actively involved in this year’s festival; they sponsored an award, had a presence in the cheese hall and even provided two cheese experts from the creamery to act as judges. But most importantly, the Creamery took away three top awards.

South Caernarfon’s cheese was graded and tasted amongst 3,700 entries from 26 countries. A gold award went to their Dragon Medium Sliced Cheddar; with the award bestowed for the packaging. Their Strawberries & Cream dessert gained a silver for best new dairy product; a notable achievement considering the breadth of the category which included all types of cheese, yoghurts and desserts. The Old Shire Vintage Cheddar also took a bronze award.

Two long-serving cheese experts from South Caernarfon Creameries Richard Mann and Gwyn Jones also assumed roles as judges at the event. Their role involved blind tasting a variety of cheese and awarding the best in class.
