EYES ON THE MIDDLE EAST.

Japan wants a share of the massive Middle East food market, estimated to be worth US$4 billion a year.

The government of Japan, has launched a food promotion, specifically targeting the United Arab Emirates.

The Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries is currently working with the UAE, on plans to increase the volumes of sea-foods in particular, exported from Japan.

Kobayashi Hiroyasu the Consul General of Japan in Dubai, said " As you may know Japan enjoys the status of the country of long life, the average life expectancy has already reached 82 years of age, which is the highest in the world. This is mainly derived from our traditional food culture. I am very proud to say that Japanese food products are now widely accepted in many countries for their safety, tasty and healthy reasons".

There is currently a promotion of Japanese food, being offered through the Spinney supermarket chain in the UAE.
