Kofi Annan welcomes EU proposal to help African farmers
The Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) has welcomed the European Union's intention to channel 1 billion Euros to African farmers.
The European Union has proposed to spend unused EU budget to help African farmers.
Kofi Annan, chairman of the AGRA board said in a statement the commitment reflec ted in the announcement was critical to solving the global food security crisis.
Increasing agricultural productivity in Africa through the immediate provision o f inputs from seeds and fertilizers to finance is an important step in generating a strong and rapid response to boost agricultural productivity and increasing economic development, Annan stated.
