Land and fishery excel at Shropshire auction
An auction of accommodation land and a fishery at Hoarstone, Market Drayton exceeded all expectations with both lots selling to local buyers after intense bidding last Friday.
The auction was conducted on behalf of Miss J. Noden by auctioneers Halls at the company’s Welsh Bridge headquarters in Shrewsbury.
The first lot, comprising 72.99 acres of versatile medium/sandy loam accommodation land under a cropping mix of grassland, plough, winter wheat and more than three acres of woodland, sold for £540,000 to a local dairy farmer.
The second lot was Hoarstone Fishery, comprising a 2.75-acre lake renowned for its carp fishing with 2.9 acres of wood, pasture and arable land around it. Equally strong demand saw bidding commence at £50,000 and rise to the selling price of £140,000.
"This successful auction result underlines the current exceptionally strong demand for land, which continues to be in short supply on the market," said auctioneer David Giles.
He urged landowners who have blocks of land that are surplus to their requirements to seek marketing advice from Halls. Mr Giles can be contacted on Tel: 01743 284777.
