Make Time for Farmhouse Breakfast Week

Farmers, producers, retailers and caterers throughout the food chain are being encouraged to take part in the next Farmhouse Breakfast Week campaign organised by the Home-Grown Cereals Authority (HGCA), which highlights the importance of breakfast and showcases regional breakfast products available across the country.

The campaign, now in its eighth year is taking place during January 21st – 27th 2007, with the theme "Make Time for It." The annual event has gone from strength to strength, with over 1,500 events held in 2006. The events draw together support from all stages of the food and farming chain to achieve one of the most comprehensive generic food campaigns in the calendar.

This year, farmers and producers are invited to organise events to promote the importance of making time for breakfast. HGCA has produced a guide for those thinking of taking part and suggestions include running a competition to find the best producer of breakfast products in your region, holding a community breakfast event, or organising a breakfast initiative at a school breakfast club or local business. For more information or to obtain copy email nutrition@hgca.com. Posters, stickers and recipe booklets are available from HGCA to support the events.

This year the hunt is on to find the Nations' Tastiest Bakers of regional breads – the bakers who do more than anyone to uphold our fine tradition of regional breakfast breads! To nominate your local baker, download an entry form from www.farmhousebreakfast.com or call HGCA on 0207 520 3968. Closing date for entries is November 10th, 2006.

Rebecca Geraghty, Assistant Director Market Development at HGCA said; "The backing of the farming sector has been invaluable in delivering positive messages about the nutritional benefits of breakfast, the need for a healthy balanced diet and a celebration of UK regional food excellence. Hopefully even more consumers will Make Time for Breakfast next year."
