Stuart Shand, sales director, Gleadell Agriculture reports: "EU and UK Maltsters continue to report a slowdown in malt off-take due to the downturn in worldwide beer sales. This is impacting on barley deliveries as Maltsters are having to use their barley storage for malt use.
"The shipping market is also slowing with a large number of boats still not available to load. Time is now running out for these and it is likely that some of these will be washed out which will put more barley back onto an already saturated domestic market," he added.
