MEGASTAR GEN-2 - Born to reduce costs

The MEGASTAR soil separator from STANDEN-PEARSON has received a far reaching makeover with a view to reducing ownership costs and enhancing performance. Always a popular machine, the original MEGASTAR has been enormously successful with sales totalling around 1800. That sales success has been repeated in many export markets too; the Ely built MEGASTAR has a loyal following among potato growers around the world with customers in countries including Japan and Australia.

MEGASTAR GEN-2 replaces the previous model, though it remains a compact, keenly priced active star separator, sitting below UNISTAR, its big brother in the STANDENPEARSON Potato Systems range.

STANDEN-PEARSON is offering growers the new MEGASTAR GEN-2 for the 2009 potato planting season, with pre-production examples having completed successful testing on many different soil types during 2008. MEGASTAR GEN-2 retains all the advantages of the earlier model, including compact dimensions, excellent operator visibility, easy manoeuvrability and low power requirements.

Low maintenance positive drive toothed belts now feature throughout, with the associated advantages of reduced wear and running costs, greater reliability and quietness of operation.

Toothed belt drive also makes the machine much cleaner to work on than greasy sprockets and chains.

The all new chassis is a high strength welded one piece monocoque (unitary) design and has enabled designers to provide many of the new features. MEGASTAR GEN-2 is much easier to work on. Ease of access to all areas for maintenance is dramatically improved, and

it's much quicker to remove star shafts to change the number of star spacers. Large access doors are held open by pressurised gas strut supports when making inspections or adjustments.

MEGASTAR GEN-2 utilises the same well proven star bed and highly effective polymer star design as its predecessor, including the acclaimed ACTIFLOW active star format which spreads incoming material evenly across the star bed to maximise the use of its separating area. The ability to angle the machine to a greater extent than previously brings efficiency benefits as well as additional adjustability on-the-move in the field. Sharper steering angles bring even better manoeuvrability at field headlands, turning in gateways etc.

A new control console has also been developed for MEGASTAR GEN-2 in conjunction with a group of regular MEGASTAR operators, resulting in a very user friendly interface which has met with universal approval under field testing. Standard equipment now includes dual hydraulic levelling while the stronger chassis has allowed engineers to fit a 20% larger hydraulic bolder box, part of a comprehensive list of options. All in all STANDEN engineers have done a great job of refining the MEGASTAR; building on its strengths without diluting the successful formula of the original.
