Net your bales to stop cat attack, vermin scratches

"Keeping cats, vermin and birds off your bales is one of the most cost-effective and simplest ways to preserve your valuable forage," advises Graham Robson, Technical Manager of UAT Ltd.

"It is surprising just how much damage these unwanted visitors can do. When opened, the bales are mouldy as a result of the punctured film. Allowing air inside the anaerobic environment promotes mould growth and results in spoiled silage.

"You can prevent damage to your bales by using a fine mesh silage protection net. A roll of Novatex silage protection can safely protect over 100 bales for less than the cost of a roll of stretchfilm and will pay for itself within a season," he adds.
