New scare leaves Ulster pig farmers facing ruin
Leading Ulster pig farmers have warned that if the current situation was to last for even a few more days it would have a crippling effect on pig farmers unable to move pigs off their farms.
Farmers said that they were the innocent victims of circumstance and called on Government agencies to make clear that Ulster pork is safe to eat.
Nigel Overend, who works in partnership with his father and brother running Deerpark Pedigree Pigs in Bellaghy, one of the leading pig farms in the UK said that farmers desperately needed the industry to restart by slaughterhouses reopening.
