New sowing guide fives advice on 50% of wintet wheat crop

With the company's wheat varieties now accounting for about 50% of the UK crop, seed breeders Nickerson have released a 'sowing guide to winter wheat' showing the best time to sow each variety in their wheat portfolio.

The guide gives advice on matching variety to sowing date for each slot from early September to late October onwards. It also provides detailed information on the agronomic characteristics of each variety, as well as charts showing optimum sowing dates and seed rates.

"As breeders, we have generated a wealth of information on how varieties perform from different sowing dates and seed rates and offer growers a wide range of agronomic types, with one or more varieties well adapted to any given sowing date or farm situation," says Frank Curtis, Nickerson's marketing director.

"Increased costs and tighter margins associated with arable farming in the 21st century mean growers need as much technical information as possible to optimise variety performance. This new guide continues the commitment we started with our husbandry guides to give growers the technical information to obtain the best results from our varieties."
