WINE INDUSTRY ON THE MOVE UP AS LAMB MOVES DOWN.
The exports of wine from New Zealand are about to join the billion dollar club.
This will place wine up with dairy products, wool, beef, lamb and kiwi fruit and the sixth largest export of the country.
The name for NZ wines is one of excellent quality and it is rapidly building a reputation in Europe.
Dairy products are still the counties largest exported goods at $12 billion per year.
There have been serious problems in the lamb industry, with drought and lamb numbers dwindling, despite this, good profits are expected for the year.
There have been 1,2 million additional adult sheep slaughtered this year, which will cause lamb shortages in 2009.
The lamb kill for the year is around 25 million and the mutton kill around 6 million
