HALAL SCANDAL.
A disgruntled Egyptian slaughterman, came to the notice of the New Zealand Security Intelligence Service this week, after posting a web site in the UK, slamming the Halal slaughter in New Zealand meat plants.
The row has erupted over the alleged pre-stunning of sheep with electric shock, as opposed to the just knife cutting of the Moslem slaughterman.
Halal Ritual slaughter is very basic and need no expertise, the animal can be slaughtered by any Moslem, the animal must face Mecca and the slaughterman says "Bismallah Allahu Akbar". Severs the throat in one cut, which breaks the spinal cord.
Whereas Kosher slaughter for Jewish people, the qualified Rabbi has to do the cut, he also has to inspect the carcass and offal, any impediment in the organs and the whole animal is rejected.
My grandfather at his abattoir in Devon England, used to slaughter all sheep by the cut of a knife and swore that done correctly, it was the most humane way.
My father who was also a slaughterman, pioneered Halal slaughter in England in 1963.

Meat Industry Association memers are concerned the scandal, will do damage to the NZ lamb export industry as Halal is the backbone of the trade today, in countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia as well as the Middle East.
