NFU Cymru Condemns Attack On Livestock Farmer

NFU has strongly condemned the reported actions of the 'Animal Liberation Front' who have claimed responsibility for an attack on a livestock farmer in Oxfordshire last month.

Two fuel tanks were blown up by incendiary devices, destroying two tractors, containers and 200 bales of hay causing damage at David Morgan's farm in Appleton, near Cumnor, estimated at around £500,000. The ALF has said it will continue to target farms and businesses they believe are involved in transporting livestock to be killed

Reacting to the news, NFU Cymru President Dai Davies said, "We totally condemn anyone who carries out such attacks on farmers who are simply going about their day to day business.

"Farmers in this country adhere to very high animal welfare standards and take great care of their animals so we feel any protests like this, which pose a threat to people's lives and livelihoods, are completely unnecessary.

Thankfully, very few people hold the kinds of views expressed by these organisations and even fewer act in this way."

Mr Davies concluded, "Farmers and their employees should remain vigilant on farm and immediately report any suspicious activity to the police."
