NFU Director General to stand down

The NFU Director General, Richard Macdonald, has announced his intention to stand down from his post later this year. The announcement was made to the NFU’s Council earlier today, 17 February.

Macdonald, who has been the NFU’s Director General for nearly 13 years said:

"It is a huge privilege to hold this job, and I have greatly enjoyed all of my some 13 years in post. However, I have decided the time has come to give a bit more time to my family and other interests, and I hope also to find some fresh work challenges.

My decision has been difficult to reach but is entirely positive and I remain extremely committed to the NFU and farming - they are a large part of my life."

Peter Kendall, President, said: "Richard has been the driving force behind the NFU for 13 years as Director General and has been with the organisation for some 30 years. His enthusiasm, drive and commitment to the industry will be sorely missed and we wish him all the best as he pursues other interests. However, I am looking forward to continuing working with him for the rest of the year."

Macdonald will remain in post until towards the end of the year and a search will now commence for his successor.
