The NFU reinforced the need for tax incentives to support farmers' investment in productivity and sustainability in a meeting with Defra yesterday (Tuesday). Head of policy services, Andrew Clark, said: "With the introduction of new NVZ rules, expectation that we adapt to climate change on top of the resurgence in concern about productivity, it's vital that Defra understands our submission to this autumn's pre-budget report."
Measures discussed included a new category of enhanced capital allowances for investments needed to meet new legislative requirements in the fields of environmental protection and animal welfare.
