ON TUESDAY at their weekly prime cattle sale Hexham and Northern Marts had forward 63 cattle, which included 33 over 30 month animals. Smaller show of cattle as result of inclement weather. Quality of cattle forward not just as good as recent weeks.

There was an entry of 1,001 prime hoggs at the weekly sale on Tuesday. Due to the snowy weather conditions a much smaller show of hoggs were forward but trade was considerably stronger on the week and well short of buyers requirements. Top price per kilo was for a pen of Beltex hoggs at 39 kilos and sold at 202.6p p/kg from Palm Strothers. Heavy hoggs sold to £91 for Suffolk x from Nunwick. Hogg prices. ON FRIDAY at their weekly sale Hexham and Northern Marts had forward an entry of 668 store cattle and suckled calves. A superb show, especially of forward cattle, met another extreme trade selling to a top of £1,330 for outstanding Limousin steers from Stotsfold whose consignment of 18 steers at 15 – 20 months averaged £1103, for the first time 50 cattle sold for £1,000 or more.
