On track to zap salmonella

THE task of helping the British Pig Industry tackle the problem of Salmonella has fallen to 37-year-old Lorna Rankine. Lorna, who has a degree in business management, has been appointed Manager of the Zoonoses Action Plan, introduced by the British Pig Executive.

She comes from a farming background and her husband is a farm manager working mostly with livestock. Lorna, who has three children, said: "I am looking forward to the challenge of helping the British pig industry deal with Salmonella. "It is a major task for everybody but very worthwhile as better health for the national herd will translate into greater profitability." BPEX Strategy Co-ordinator Andrew Knowles said: "Lorna's expertise will be of great benefit to ensure the smooth running of the ZAP programme."
