One-stop farming shop finally opens
A NEW state-of-art livestock market based at Huntworth finally opens for business today (Monday) ready to provide unrivalled facilities.
Leading livestock auctioneers Greenslade Taylor Hunt took over full occupation of the auction centre with clients old and new from far and wide set to make full use of the provisions including access and parking.
The venue was officially unveiled on December 3 to coincide with the Primestock show, and despite the market being still under construction, a record number of entries and visitors flooded in.
Market partner Robert Venner said: "It has been a long and intense process but well worth it. As I have said previously, Sedgemoor Auction Centre is sure to put Westcountry livestock farmers firmly on the map.
"When you consider that only 12 months ago this was a Greenfield site, the transformation has been phenomenal. We were hoping to be in occupation by the end of 2007 but the wait has been well worth it."
The new all encompassing Sedgemoor Auction Centre sees the closure of the long-running Taunton and Highbridge livestock markets - marking the end of an era.
The auctioneers held a final farewell to mark the occasion on Saturday with a team of auctioneers past and present on site for the occasion.
