Duke of Gloucester
More than half a century after his aunt became the first Royal visitor to Otley Show, the Duke of Gloucester is to attend this year’s landmark 200th show on Saturday, May 16.
It was in 1957 that Otley Show welcomed the then Princess Royal, King George V1’s sister Princess Mary, Countess of Harewood. Now, 52 years later, Richard, Duke of Gloucester will rekindle the Royal association.
"We are honoured that the Duke has accepted the invitation to attend our landmark bicentenary show. A Royal presence is a real boost to what we are hoping will be the biggest and best event in our long and proud history," said show president Mervyn Lister.
Help in arranging the Royal visit came from Leeds North West MP Greg Mullholland. BBC Look North weatherman Paul Hudson will also attend the 200th show.
