PHILIPPINES PIG DISEASE.

Manila, Philippines (AHN) - Philippine health authorities on Tuesday said it is extending its monitoring of hog farms for ebola reston virus, after 19 pig farms from Bulacan province, north of the capital Manila, tested positive for the virus.

Health secretary Francisco Duque said the government is monitoring hog farms in four other provinces to prevent the spread of the virus and added that more than 6,000 pigs cold be slaughtered to depopulate farms infected with ebola reston virus.

He added the infected farms have already been quarantined.

Duque said ebola reston does not pose any danger to humans, but he still advised the public to cook pork meat well before consumption.

"Stay away from half-cooked pork," he said.

The government has commissioned a team of experts to determine the cause of the virus, originally thought to have come from bats.
