Over 1000 people are expected to descend upon Ilsley Barn Farm in Compton next Saturday 16th October, as it hosts The Newbury & District Agricultural Society’s (NDAS) Annual Ploughing Match.
The Ploughing Match is one of the key activities for the local farming community in the NDAS calendar and is always popular with spectators who get a thorough insight into the art of ploughing. Visitors will be able to watch demonstrations of horse and plough workmanship, ploughing by vintage tractors and modern machinery and enjoy the delightful sight of steam ploughing. One of the best-loved aspects of the match is the sight of the gentle giant Shire horses in action.
Competitors come from across the South of England to take part and as always there will be a strong representation from local farmers.
In amidst all the ploughing action will be the chance for some fun with trailer rides, a hog roast and numerous trade stands to visit. The popular cake making competition will also be judged on the day along with a new addition of a chutney making class.
Ploughing Match organiser, Michael Bowden said: "We’re delighted to be able to host this year’s Ploughing Match at Ilsley Barn Farm. We’ve had an excellent run of matches over the past few years and we’re looking forward to seeing some fantastic competitors in action. I’d like to urge everyone to come along and witness this magnificent tradition."

The Ploughing Match starts at 9am on Saturday 16th October. Tickets for adults are priced at £4 with free entry for under 16s.
