Re-appointment of Jonathon Porritt as chair to the Sustainable Development Commission
The UK Government and Devolved Administrations announced today that Jonathon Porritt has been re-appointed as Chair to the Sustainable Development Commission. He will lead the Commission for a further three year period commencing on 27th July 2006.
Jonathon was initially appointed by the Prime Minister as Chairman of the UK Sustainable Development Commission in July 2000, and then re-appointed for a further term ending on 26th July 2006.
David Miliband, Secretary of State for Environment, said:
"Jonathon's strong leadership of the Sustainable Development Commission is respected at all levels of Government and beyond. The Commission continues to play a very important role in its capacity as the government's advisor, advocate, and watchdog reporting on progress on sustainable development. Jonathon's vision and drive remain essential to help all levels of Government, business and communities across the UK achieve sustainability."
