Record dairy cattle entries at Dairy Event and Livestock Show

Cattle stalls at the Dairy Event and Livestock Show are booked out with a record 240 entries for the competitive classes to be held at Stoneleigh Park, Coventry on Wednesday 16 September, the first of the two day event organised by the Royal Association of British Dairy Farmers.

"Exhibitor interest and enthusiasm is outstanding," says RABDF chief executive, Nick Everington. "Six breeds of cattle will be competing for prestigious silverware and attractive prize money, thanks to cattle sponsor, Merial Animal Health through its Eprinex brand which has put up £1,000 for the HSBC supreme championship. Furthermore, the two day format works well for exhibitors."

Judging on an inspection only format, will take place throughout Wednesday in Cattle Shed 13, culminating with the supreme champion in the afternoon. John Garnett of Milnthorpe, Cumbria will judge the Holstein section, while Willie Bell, of Wigton, Cumbria will do the honours in the British Friesian ring; George Templeton, Cumnock, Ayrshire will judge the Ayrshires; Matt Hayward, Newark, Nottinghamshire, the Dairy Shorthorns; Philip Oliver, Stocksfield, Northumberland the Brown Swiss and David Gray, East Kilbride, Glasgow the Jerseys.

The event will also host the National Federation of Young Farmers Clubs’ National Stockman and Young Stock Judge of the Year competitions. The awards will be presented to the winners by RABDF president, Baroness Hazel Byford in the judging ring on Thursday.
