Some farmers resisting electronic tagging of deer, cattle

The former Federated Farmers leader heading livestock industry and government efforts to force farmers to individually identify cattle and deer says a "roadshow" will give farmers an opportunity to raise any concerns.

A prototype trial has just been completed on the proposed National Animal Identification and Tracing system (NAIT), according to the venture"e;s independent chairman, Ian Corney.

"We have a better idea about how NAIT could be implemented and how we could transition to the new system over the next couple of years," he said yesterday.
