Sun rises for local farmer

Paul Botsford

A farmer from St. Neots has won one of the top prizes in a competition run by Dow AgroSciences. Paul Botsford, who is a farm manager for PD Topham Ltd, won an Apple iPad in a competition run to promote the company’s new herbicide Broadway Sunrise.

Paul said: "I go in for quite a lot of trade competitions, but I have never won anything like this before. It’s a great prize, but I expect my children will want to get their hands on it!"

Paul manages 2500 acres growing winter wheat and oilseed rape. He has problems with a range of weeds including wild oat, brome, and blackgrass.

He said: "I have decided to try Broadway Sunrise this year. It went onto a field where there was a mixed weed problem around November 15th, before the cold weather struck, and following a suitable pre-emergence herbicide. It looks like it is having an effect already, and I will be interested to see the results next year."

Paul was presented with his iPad by Dow AgroSciences’ Regional Business Manager, Andrew Rhodes.
