Countries have known that greater investment in agriculture can improve lives of their people, yet investment in the industry has been grossly neglected over the past 20 years. More than 75% of the world's poor live in the countryside, where agriculture is the primary vocation but only 4% of official development aid goes to agriculture in developing countries.
