Support Farmers by Buying Welsh

As farmers in Wales face increasing hardship as a result of low market prices, NFU Cymru is encouraging shoppers to demonstrate their support for the industry by buying Welsh meat.

NFU Cymru Livestock board Chairman, Ed Rees said, " The stringent livestock movement restrictions and the banning of meat exports imposed in the wake of the Foot and Mouth outbreak led to a collapse in market prices, with some farmers now receiving lower prices for lamb than 20 years ago.

"I would urge all shoppers to buy Welsh wherever possible, to support farmers, who through no fault of their own have suffered a devastating blow to their industry in recent weeks.

"A number of Welsh supermarkets are stocking imported beef and lamb, despite there being an abundance of Welsh produce available but if consumers want to be assured that the meat they are buying are of the highest quality, and has not travelled thousands of miles to reach Wales then they should buy wisely – buy Welsh."
