Following the decision this week by Elliot Morley, Minister of State at Defra and the UKRA that the rendering industry will discuss with the Environment Agency a strategy which will lead to compliance with WID and, at the same time, allow renderers to continue to use tallow as an environmentally-beneficial fuel; Michael Seals, Chairman of the National Fallen Stock Company, made this statement,
"We are pleased to see that the rendering industry and government have made significant progress in resolving the long standing issues concerning the use of tallow in rendering plants".
The UKRA/Defra announcements means that we can continue to offer a valuable service to the farming industry without the uncertainty over price rises which we would have faced had an agreement not been made. We are currently in the process of re-tendering for services under the Scheme and we would hope that collection and disposal operators will continue to offer the same, value for money service, which we have encouraged over the course of the last 18 months.
