Texel breeders alerted to major flock reduction auction

An opportunity for established and new Texel breeders to buy into successful breeding bloodlines is being offered by Shrewsbury Auction Centre on November 26 when around 100 in-lamb ewes and gimmers from three noted flocks go under the hammer.

The special midday auction, organised by auctioneers Halls, is based on a major reduction of the Claybury Texel flock by Hannah and James Draper from Ensdon House, Montford Bridge, Shrewsbury

The Drapers are reducing their award winning flock due to other commitments, as they both have full time jobs. Hannah works in the commercial red meat team for Tesco and James is agricultural manager for ABP.

They are including a selection of about 80 in-lamb ewes and gimmers for sale as well as embryos from the best breeding ewes in the flock.

The ewes are in-lamb to 14,000gns Clinterty Samba, purchased at the Scottish National Sale this year, Strathbogie Stonker, purchased at the English National Sale this year for 3,400gns and Claybury Rocky Balboa, who bred our top priced ram lamb this year.

There will also be a selection of about 20 in-lamb gimmers from the Loosbeare (E. W. Quick and Sons), Colwood and High Weald (Trinidad Investments) flocks.

"There will be a number of different aged ewes for sale from yearlings to five crop ewes, some of which will be from our best breeding families," said Hannah.

"The auction is built on the success of our last sale where we sold a ewe lamb for 8,500gns, which remains the highest price achieved for a ewe lamb at a UK auction. Her mother and full ET sister are available in this auction.

"There will also be full sisters and maternal sisters for sale to rams which have sold well for us and gone on to breed well. The auction will be an ideal opportunity for established and new breeders to purchase exciting females and buy into these great breeding bloodlines."

Nick Hyne, Halls’ Shrewsbury Auction Centre manager, said the company was delighted to host the auction and hoped to build on the success of the Draper family’s previous record breaking sale.
