Text alerts helping farmers stay up to date

NFU Cymru has commended the Welsh Assembly Government for introducing a text message service to alert farmers of the latest developments in the foot and mouth crisis.

The Assembly's decision to adopt the new service was a direct result of lobbying from NFU Cymru. The Union is acutely aware of the importance of keeping Welsh farmers up to date with the current situation at what is a critical time for the industry.

NFU Cymru Vice President, Ed Bailey, said, "The NFU has been operating a text messaging service to its members for a number of months now, so it is indeed welcome news that the Assembly Government has decided to follow suit in an effort to keep farmers abreast of the latest foot and mouth disease developments.

"In our regular meetings with the Rural Affairs Minister we have been advocating the adoption of such a scheme for the benefit of farmers across the country. I'm very pleased to see that this has now been implemented."

Any NFU Cymru member who wishes to subscribe to the free NFU text message alert service should contact their local group office.
