The Pinnacle Awards announce their eight finalists
Sam Rowe, from Colchester in Essex, has been selected as one of the eight finalists in the Farmers Club student award scheme for excellence in Business management. Sam was awarded his place in the final for the 'Pinnacle Awards', after completing a Farm Diversification plan for Sturgeons Farm at Writtle College. Sam is in his third year at Writtle College, studying for a BSc (Hons) Agriculture degree.
By getting to the final Sam has already won a special prize of £300, he will keep half of this and the other half will be used towards College facilities. This is the third year in succession that Writtle College have had a representative in the final. The finals are on Friday 25th April at The Farmers Club, Whitehall, London.
Each finalist will be interviewed for 30 minutes by the judges and will then be asked to prepare a 10 minute presentation for the other seven candidates, judges and guests. The gold prize winner will receive £2,500 and a one year membership to the Farmers Club. The silver finalist will receive £1,200 and membership, while the bronze winner will take home £800 plus membership.
Sam, who is currently preparing for the awards, commented "I am looking forward to the interview and presentation as it will be an interesting challenge to put some of my theory into an everyday event."
The prestigious awards were established in 1998 to foster and encourage the management training of students who are preparing for work in the rural and land-based industries. They are sponsored by The Farmers Club, ADAS and the Cave Foundation, with help from the Guild of Agricultural Journalists.
Entry for the awards is open to full-time students attending colleges and universities in the UK which are providing training courses for land-based industries and who will complete a practically-based management project during the year of entry for the award. Students are entered on the recommendation of their college or university, as having undertaken a project of high standard that is suitable for assessment in competition with entries from other students
