Finished Cattle – 489: A very good level of demand right the way through once again. Probably the edge has slightly gone off the trade a little bit but still nothing to complain about with prices well in line if not above deadweight quotations for Monday morning.
Steers sold up to 193.0p, heifers to 202.5p and bulls to 189.5p. All sorts were keenly competed for.
Prices were as follows: Light steers: Standard quality to 156.0p, ave 150.3p; also rans to 139.5p; overall average 145.3p.
Medium steers: Best quality to 193.0p, ave 171.4p, standard quality to 162.0p, ave 153.1p; also rans to 134.0p; overall average 155.6p.
Heavy steers: Best quality to 182.0p, ave 169.5p; standard quality to 162.0p, ave 152.5p; also rans to 141.0p; overall average 158.0p.
Light heifers: Best quality to 166.0p, ave 166.0p.
Medium heifers: Best quality to 199.5p, ave 176.5p; standard quality to 165.0p, ave 157.4p; also rans to 142.5p; overall average 160.0p.
Heavy heifers: Best quality to 202.5p, ave 174.9p; standard quality to 165.0p, ave 155.2p; also rans to 141.0p; overall average 156.0p.
Bulls: Light bulls to 129.5p, ave 129.5p; medium bulls to 187.0p, ave 156.6p; heavy bulls to 189.5p, ave 162.5p.
Barren Cows & Over 48 Months Cattle – 68: Another excellent trade with genuine barreners up to 141.0p and an overall average for all sorts, to include quite a lot of plain cows, of 110.7p.
Prices were as follows: Grade 1 cows to 141.0p, ave 120.5p; Grade 2 cows to 112.5p, ave 107.1p; Grade 3 cows to 104.5p, ave 100.4p; Grade 4 cows to 90.5p, ave 84.5p; old bulls to 107.5p, ave 96.4p; Overall average 110.7p/kg.
Finished Sheep – 4,010: Another firm level of demand on all of the hoggets with plenty of buyers in attendance. Prices were as follows: Light hoggets to 167.0p, ave 164.8p; standard hoggets to 184.0p, ave 171.7p; medium hoggets to 231.0p, ave 174.6p; heavy hoggets to 175.0p, ave 170.2p; overweight hoggets to 173.5p, ave 163.8p.
Export quality hoggets sold up to 231.0p per kilo and averaged 176.5p per kilo and home trade hoggets sold up to 171.5p per kilo and averaged 168.7p per kilo.
An excellent trade on the killing ewes from beginning to end on all sorts, with ewes topping at £100.00 and an overall average of £57.81, killing rams to £80.00, average £64.95.
LUDLOW MARKET STORE SALE FEBRUARY 13 Store Cattle – 369: Another extremely sharp trade with a total clearance. Several dairy bred cattle in the entry and several Friesians but even so the steers averaged 155.0p and the heifers 154.0p, with the bulls 177.0p.
Of particular note was a run of in-calf heifers, which sold up to £1,010 and averaged £857. The Limousin and Hereford X heifers were in calf to a Limousin bull and due in the spring.
Cows and calves were also a good trade with cows and calves to £1,290 and an overall average of £784 to include some ’dolly’ cows with calves at foot.
Feeding cows sold up to 136.0p and averaged 113.0p.

There was an excellent trade on the in-lamb ewes with a good entry of ewes.
North Country mule ewes with others sold up to £105 with an overall average for all of the ewes in lamb of £89.50. More could have been sold to advantage.
Calves & Weanlings – 12: Another very strong trade. More needed. Bull calves to £240, average of £140 to include a lot of small Angus bulls.
Heifer calves to £230 to average £112 again to include several small Aberdeen Angus X heifers. A ring packed full of buyers.
