UNITED KINGDOM-BOWLES SELL PORK OPERATIONS.
Cranswick has announced it is to buy the pork processing operation of Bowes of Norfolk in a deal reported to be worth £17.2m.
The compamy founded by Dudley Bowles for many years were the largest private pork processors in East Anglia. There was quite a stir in the seventies when Dudley walked out and handed the busiesness over to his sons headed by Ashley his eldest son.
Bowles then based on Wooten Norfolk were the first pork abattoir to go into cutting pigs at the abattoir.
The Bowles family were a familiar site at all the cattle markets in the East of England with their distinctive cattle lorries that they built themselves at the company garages.
The pig rearing operation of Bowes, following completion of the processing deal, will be sold back to a management buy-out team, made up of members of the Bowes family and current Bowes’ management team, it was reported.
The deal is expected to completed within 3 months.
