MORRISONS TO EXPAND BEEF PLANT.
The abattoir and meat plant of Morrisons supermarkets, at Colne in north Lancashire, has been given the green light from the local council to expand its facilities.
The plant built by Thomas Borthwicks in the seventies, as a state of the art export plant, employs over 600 people in preparing meat for the supermarket shelf.
The animals walk in live at one end and come out on supermarket trays at the other.
The new expansion will give employment to a further 100 staff, and increase the value adding of meat
The CEO of Morrisons was awarded the prestigious Sunday Times Business Person of the year recently.
