Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth 11, acknowledged Britain’s economic problems and the insecurity in people in today’s uncertain times, in her annual Christmas Day speech broadcast to the nation.
The United Kingdom is experiencing a sharp economic downturn and the monarch described how the festive period would be a somber occasion for many this year.
The Queen’s recognition of the difficulties some families will face this Christmas was contrasted by her positive words about those who live "unselfish lives" and use their time and skills and money to help others.
Her Majesty is no stranger to the farming industry being a very big farmer herself, nor a stranger to the meat industry and has attended Smithfield meat market on many occasions.
Her Majesty is also a fine judge of bloodstock, and no mean horsewoman herself. Prince Charles is a fine jump jockey and came third in a race at Sandown Park, several years ago against the best National Hunt jockeys in the business.
