MISSISSIPPI MEAT SCANDAL.
The meat trade scandal that involved to governor of Mississippi, being mentioned by name and costing the tax payers close on $60 million is now concluded.
Mississippi Beef Processors LLC, was financed by the government to build a new state of the art meat plant, creating 400 new jobs in the region of Oakland. However through bad management and a lack of working capital, the plant was closed in 2004, after only a few months in operation.
This information was laid before Judge Michael Mills, in a courtroom last week, when he sentenced Robert Moultrie, the chairman of the company to 16 months in prison, after he had pleaded guilty to illegally contributing, to the campaign of Governor Ronnie Musgrove, who was at that time up for re-election.
The plant appeared to have a golden opportunity to succeed, with a willing workforce and abundant supplies of cattle. The liquidation cost the community in lost jobs and revenue and local farmers, who were not paid for stock
