A judge in Waterloo, Iowa, this week delayed the trial of Agriprocessors owner Abraham Rubashkin and former managers including his son Sholom Rubashkin on state child labor charges, according to the Associated Press.
Judge Nathan Callahan rescheduled the trial for Aug. 4 from its original April 20 date. He also moved the trial about 70 miles from Allamakee County to Black Hawk County.
Attorneys for some of the defendants indicated they found the new location also unacceptable. They will be given another chance, likely on July 14, to argue for a different location, the AP reported.
The Iowa attorney general’s office has filed more than 9,000 child labor charges against Agriprocessors, its owners and former managers. Prosecutors accuse them of hiring minors and in some cases of having children younger than 16 handle dangerous equipment.
Nearly 400 people were arrested in a May 2008 ICE raid at the company’s Postville, Iowa slaughterhouse.
