Farmers in the United States are starting to learn about how climate change legislation will affect them.
The National Council of Farmer Co-operatives is holding a series of meetings around the country to explain how future legislation will increase the cost of electricity, fertiliser and fuel.
The counil’s Chuck Conner told a US media agency that farmers need to participate in the climate change debate.
"And we felt it was important to gather as much good information on the impact of climate legislation on our agricultural community and to really begin to address that fundamental question - can we have a vibrant, growing efficient agricultural economy in this context?"
