United States-Farmer loses 161 head of cattle.

UNITED STATES-161 MISSING CATTLE.

Livingston County sheriff’s deputies are looking for 161 missing cattle that may have ended up between buns by now.

Deputies say a farmer they identify as Richard Clement raised the cattle for a Wisconsin-based company on his property in Livingston County’s Cohoctah Township, 45 miles northwest of Detroit.

The Detroit News and Howell radio station WHMI say the cattle have been missing since August 2007. Detective Matt Shutes says Clement told investigators only that the cattle had died.

Michigan Department of Agriculture spokeswoman Bridget Patrick says the agency started tagging cows’ ears with radio frequency identification devices in March 2007. She says tagged cows couldn’t be tracked if they were slaughtered on private property and sold for meat.

There was no telephone listing for a Richard Clement in Cohoctah Township.
