Vote Dalton on May 5th

It's not every day that two EX93 daughters from the same herd come up for sale – and even more unusual when they're both from the same bull.

May 5th – Election Day – sees the dispersal of the famous Crichel herd, in Dorset. Among the cows included in the catalogue are two EX93 daughters by Cogent Dalton, bred as a result of random young sire use.

"It's rare for a bull to breed cows classified EX93 in a third lactation," explains Richard Williams, business development manager with Cogent Breeding, "so to have two in the same herd is certainly something to take notice of.

"What's makes this incidence even more striking is that at the time, Dalton was in our Young Sires programme.

"Traditionally, there's been a little hesitancy about using Young Sires, but this case demonstrates perfectly the inherent value of the programme, and the fantastic results that it can deliver within a herd.

"It also illustrates why Dalton became one of our proven sires."

Crichel Dalton Pamela 6th EX93 is from the same Pamela family as Principal and also has a very fancy Dalbytop Phil calf selling. Crichel Dalton Lynne 17th EX93 is from another of Crichel's famous cow families.

Dalton himself is from the same family as Regancrest Elton Durham and has previously bred the young sire daughter, Fulfordhall Dalton Pride EX-3yr that was Reserve Champion at AgriScot in 2003.

"Dalton is one of the best bulls in the breed for power, strength and width," says Mr Williams. "The sale will be a wonderful opportunity to buy into his success."
