Wales is to spend seven million pounds to prevent potential welfare problems faced by lambs on Welsh hills which cannot be exported because of the outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease in England.
In Wales some 830,000 light lambs are produced annually, with a significant amount destined for export from August to February. Within that total there are around 300,000 lambs in the lighter category that have no natural market within the UK.
