Explore the miles of footpaths across meadow and pasture, through fields of oats and tiny woodland copses to discover a hidden village or lonesome farmstead. The quiet lanes along with the delightful vistas and abundant wildlife make cycling a pleasure. Pedal through lanes thickly hedged and winding, reach lowland hamlets where the view takes you to the Pennines or the Lakeland hills or the fells with streams aplenty, that trickle down into The Eden river, the predominate feature of the valley. Along its course it plunges 200ft down sandstone cliffs to turbulent rapids, attracting canoeists, climbers, fishermen and peregrine falcons.

Return from your adventures to sink into a deep chair before a crackly wood stove and enjoy an afternoon tea tray. Sit around the enormous oak table to watch hares and peewits in the evening or bright morning sunshine as you enjoy a farmhouse breakfast spread prepared to make the most of local produce used in adventurous recipes.
